Between 23rd and 25th September 2011 two of our members, Janine and Angelo Valerio, will be taking part in a 500 mile cycling relay through rural France. They will be raising funds for Marlins Special Needs Water Activities Club which their son Robbie regularly attends.

It’s good to have a good news story …….. and this really is good news! You will probably have seen in the local papers that the Borough Council were proposing closing down Foxgloves in order to save money.
Almost all people with a learning disability who live in residential care receive the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance, at either the higher or lower rate. In the midst of all the doom and gloom about financial cuts and reductions, we’ve been very pleased in the past couple of weeks to receive confirmation from Bedford Borough and Central Beds Councils that they will support our Summer Playscheme again this year – and with more money than last year! These grants have to be applied for each year and it certainly isn’t funding that is taken for granted, so, in the current climate, it was extremely welcome news!

In his Comprehensive Spending Review statement in October, the Chancellor said that this allowance will be stopped.
Bedford Borough Council is planning some major changes to its Day Services for adults with a learning disability. The stimulus to its plans is the need to save money.
